Jean & Mithé – Sea Navigation

JEAN & MITHÉ

Sea and Navigation

We were born into sailors’ families. My father was a merchant marine officer and my father-in-law was a merchant seaman.
I joined the navy for 9 years 3 months 6 days. I specialized in the maintenance and operation of radars. During this period I sailed around the world on the “Joan of Arc”, spent several months in Tahiti, crossed the polar circle, passed the Panama Canal etc… and was present during the 6 day war in the Cyprus sector…

The sea has always made me dream and around 52 years old I learned to swim… since I’m a fish !!! Then catamaran sailing school and even more… acquisition of a used First 25 (about 7.5m)… and the big step a brand new Océanis 31 (9.66m) in 2009…
What I like: adjusting the sails, calculating the tides, playing with the currents, preparing our cruises, using the nautical charts… and also anticipating because everything changes very quickly…
Mithe/Strong>: I was familiar with the sea, but I had never practiced except for outings in a speedboat or old rigging in a group. I learnt everything with the captain and got into the game.
…
Did I have a sea legs? I guess so. I was never afraid or seasick. Lucky for me, I’m not a water fanatic. We started by sailing in our area (Brehat, St Quay, the seven islands …) landscape that we do not tire of which varies depending on the weather (sun, overcast …) The colors are very different. Little by little, we widened our space.
On board, we each have our own role. Before a departure, I plan to fill the holds and I manage the stock during the crossing. At sea, I help out as much as I can (manoeuvres, surveillance, steering if necessary, photos…). When everything is settled, I enjoy the observation and the calm. On departure and arrival in the ports, I resume my job as a sailor: setting up the mooring equipment, stowing away…

Jean and Mithé invite the curious to come aboard their sailboat at the quayside in the port of Lézardrieux and discuss their daily life as sailors: navigation and safety equipment, sea code, interior fittings and life on board, nautical documents, tides, currents, voyages made… Good exchanges in perspective. Limited number of places available. The meeting place will be communicated to you at the time of registration.
Minimum : 2 people. Maximum: 6 people.

Tales and Legends

For a long time I have been walking on the wonderful paths of Brittany between my house in Pleubian, the wild peninsula, the furrow of Talbert, the Pink Granite Coast, Paimpol… I believe that each of the small stones of each path must have the memory of my footsteps.
And then one day, leaning on the menhir of the coastal path, at the foot of the Creac’h Maout, I felt the breath of the stone on my forehead. At that moment, I decided to take another path, the path of stories.

So I reopened the storybook. But without meaning to, I have also drawn from the bottomless barrel of time, all the stories of the Argoat and Armor past, present and future. And these are the stories I tell and want to share with you. Once upon a time…

In life, Alain is a storyteller and regularly performs for private parties or at storytelling festivals.

GERARD

THE VEGETABLE WORLD OF THE PENINSULA

Gerard has been passionate about plants since he was a young boy. Initiated by his family and friends, he learned in the field, rummaging through books… Now retired, he is once again devoting himself to this pleasure and is eager to share it.
Gérard wants to raise awareness of the different characteristics of plants by giving you the basic notions that will sharpen your eye. He will adapt himself to the public and will know how to direct the meeting for initiation or for more knowledgeable people. During a walk on a path by the sea or in the sunken paths, you will make plant discoveries according to the environment and the seasons.

The party will then take any kind of orientation according to your exchanges:
– How to recognize and identify plants? Shape of leaves, flowers …
– The origin of the vegetal world. When, where, how, why?
– The life of a plant cell, its development, its reproduction…
– The role of leaves, roots, stems…
– Why are plants attracted to light?
– La Flore – How to use it, which one to choose?
You will also be able to discuss with Gerard about grandmother’s pharmacopoeia, sometimes uncertain, but often full of common sense! Imagine during this botanical walk that you discover an herb with battered women, an herb with warts, an herb with a thousand holes, Robert’s herb, etc., etc. Why these names? So many plant trails to explore together!

“Yes, to share one’s knowledge with the visitors of the peninsula, an ambition to pass on a knowledge that is certainly incomplete but fascinating from those who passed it on to me more than 55 years ago when I fell into this “pot of the need to know”! In homage to those. “Gérard

On one of the circuits inscribed within the perimeter of the Conservatoire du Littoral, set off on the path of the abominable mystery of flowering plants. You will be led to wonder about the origin of both animal and plant life, discovering the different species encountered. Another theme can be tackled: the strategies developed by about twenty plants to survive and reproduce in the natural environment, with an emphasis on the characteristics of plants.
The meeting place will be communicated to you when you register. Minimum: 2/3 people. Maximum: 6 people.
